Session Dates for Summer School 2021
ALF Summer School will be held June 21 through July 16, 2021. There will be no classes on July 5 for Independence Day.

4-Week Enrichment Classes
Classes are four weeks and students should plan to attend the entire session for the full benefit of the program. The program is Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM and includes 3 class periods and 2 outdoor recreation breaks. There is no class credit or homework.

Guidelines for social gatherings are changing frequently and we will continue to monitor Los Angeles County advisories, as well as coordinate with La Cañada Unified School District on setting safety protocols for ALF Summer School. More detailed safety procedures will be announced as we get closer to school opening.  Depending on conditions, please be aware that students may be required to quarantine at home if they travel outside the state just prior to or during ALF Summer School.  UPDATE: See new COVID-19 protocols sheet.

All students entering grades 1-6 may participate in ALF Summer School. We will not be able to accommodate 7/8 grade students this year. Students should register for the grade they will be entering in the fall of 2021. Students entering kindergarten or T-K in the fall are not eligible. We do not require that the student live in La Cañada Flintridge.  

Grades 1-6 will attend Paradise Canyon Elementary (PCY), 471 Knight Way, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011

Students will attend 3 indoor classes and 2 outdoor activities each day.  They will be grouped by color “camp-style” in clusters of 15-16 students that will remain together the full morning in the same classroom and outdoor areas.  Tailored for each grade level, students will engage in activities that teach science, art, math, reading, writing, physical well-being and more.  There will be no online sessions or computer classes as the program is designed for in-person interaction with fellow students and their instructor.  ALF will accommodate requests for students to be paired with friends in most cases but such requests cannot be guaranteed.  Please indicate the name(s) of your student’s friend during the registration process.

Registration will open on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 12:00 Noon and closes Monday, June 14, 2021 at 5:00 PM, or whenever full. Late Fees apply after June 1. The cost of the program includes the entire 4-week session. ALF Summer School does not offer 1-week sessions so you may not enroll a student for any particular week individually.  Sessions that are already full will be indicated when registering. 

Parents have asked if they can pre-register their student(s) in order to get through the registration process quickly. The simple answer is “no.” However, you may review the “Preparing for ALF Summer School sheet to learn what information we will ask you during registration so you can start compiling it. We have a new registration system this year. If you have registered previously for Summer School, you will not be able to retrieve your information unless you already have an account from another program. If you have trouble registering, please call us at 818-790-2211. Once you register, the family information will be held in your account, making it easier to sign up next time. You may return to your online account at any time to update your information such as student address or parent contact phone number. Use the link in your confirmation email.

Assistance League of Flintridge Summer School reserves the right to cancel a class that does not meet minimum student enrollment.

Wait Lists
This year, ALF will be limiting the number of students due to social distancing protocols. If your student is not able to register for the program, you may contact the ALF Summer School office and ask to be added to a Wait List. Contact or call 818-790-2211 to make this request. If a space becomes available, we will then call you to see if you are still interested.

The 4-week session includes a full morning of classes and recreation for $555.

No Refunds
Assistance League of Flintridge has a NO REFUND policy for philanthropic program enrollment. This means no refunds for changed minds or impromptu vacations. Also, we do not offer credits or refunds for partial attendance. NOTE ABOUT COVID-19: If a class is required to close due to exposure to a positive coronavirus case, no program fees will be credited or refunded, as all Summer School preparations, such as curriculum planning and supplies, staffing commitments, and administrative work will have already been outlaid.

Late Fees
A late fee of $30 will be applied to each registration beginning Monday, June 1, 2021. 

ALF Summer School scholarships will not be available this year.

Special Needs
During the registration process, we ask that you list any special needs that your child may have.  We share these notes with the Summer School staff, teachers and health clerk so they are aware of the special needs. Be assured that the student’s medical information will be strictly confidential.

Students who require medication to be taken during Summer School hours must have a Physician’s Recommendations for Medication form on file in the Summer School Health Office. The form must be updated every time a prescription changes and is valid through the duration of the summer session. A new form must be completed each year.

Behavior Standards
Assistance League of Flintridge programs are intended for students who are genuinely interested in the “joy of learning”. Because of the necessity for harmonious group interaction, a situation in which any student is discourteous, disruptive or uncooperative will be managed in the following manner:

  • Initial infraction: The student will be warned and the warning recorded.
  • Next infraction: The student will be warned and parents notified. The warning will be recorded.
  • Final infraction: The student will be excluded from participation in the program.

Program fees will not be refunded if a student is excluded from participation. In addition, the Summer School Principal sets the Student Conduct & Responsibility guidelines for the school location. These guidelines are included in the ALF Summer School Welcome Packets that are sent to parents and also posted on the PCY page of our website.

Welcome Packet
Welcome Packets will be sent out electronically approximately one to two weeks prior to the first day of school. The email will include student classes with room numbers, a map of the school and special instructions. If you do not receive this packet by Wednesday, June 16, 2021, contact the ALF Summer School office. Be sure not to “unsubscribe” from Activenetwork or, our registration and communications company and check your spam regularly.  UPDATE: The complete Welcome Packet is now available.

What to Bring
ALF Summer School provides all the school supplies for the classrooms.  You will want to send your child with a small snack and a water bottle with his/her name on it.  Sunscreen should be applied before leaving home.

Report an Absence
Consistent daily attendance during the entire 4-week session is highly encouraged for the full benefit of the program. If a student needs to be absent, a parent/guardian must contact the Attendance Hotline at 818-949-4881 on the day of the absence. Please indicate the student’s first and last name, the date(s) of absence and a contact phone number in case there are questions.

Child Education Center, Summer Program
Assistance League of Flintridge does not provide child care before or after school. Summer Enrichment Camps are available through the Child Education Center and are held immediately after ALF Summer School at Paradise Canyon Elementary.
