Assisteens 2020 – 2021

The Assisteens® calendar traditionally runs from August through May. The day of the week or times vary from year to year. Registration for the new season usually occurs around April or May. For the 2020-2021 season, registration was delayed due to the coronavirus, COVID-19.  Registration will now open on Friday, August 21 at 12 Noon.

Assisteens will have their first monthly meeting on September 27, 2020.  (This was changed from the original meeting date of September 20.) The meetings will follow social gathering guidelines as required by state and local authorities at the time.  For the most part, future meetings will be held on the third Sunday of the month except when school holidays are in conflict.  A folder of information with a student roster and updated calendar is given to our members at the first meeting.  All important information is also sent out via email, text and posted on the website .  Please look for updates and let us know if you are not receiving these notifications.

Assisteens Helping Out in the Bargain Box & Music Petting Zoo

All meetings are held at Assistance League of Flintridge located at 4607 Oakwood Avenue, La Cañada Flintridge, adjacent to the library and across from TJ Maxx..  The Chapter Meeting Room (CMR) is behind the Bargain Box Thrift Shop, down the driveway to the left.

Assisteens in Action
As members of the Assistance League of Flintridge “Assisteens” auxiliary, the teens meet monthly and work together on many projects.  They also staff the Bargain Box Thrift Shop one Saturday each month.

In addition to conducting business and working on projects, Assisteens receive informative presentations such as this one on plastics and their effect on the environment that was presented by Assisteen, Melina Tsotras.  She had been studying this subject in connection with her Girl Scout Gold Award.  Also at this meeting was Assistance League of Flintridge member Rose Nielsen, who brought her therapy dog Goldie and shared their experiences helping hospitalized children.  The Assisteens were so inspired by Team Rose & Goldie that in 2020, they voted to support the Amerman Family Foundation dog therapy program at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.  Assisteens purchased 137 embroidered, lightweight jackets that were delivered to the hospital for volunteers to wear during their therapy sessions.

“We have a wonderful group of Assisteens,” said Jeanette Viau,  Assistance League of Flintridge member and Assisteens Coordinator.  “They are very enthusiastic and strive to improve the community.”

Communication with Students & Parents
The Assisteens Coordinator regularly sends information and schedules directly to students via email. Be sure to indicate the best email address for your student during the registration process and let us know promptly if any changes occur. For your convenience, the information sent to Assisteens will also be sent to parents and posted here.  Specific student information, like names of participants for an activity, are always redacted in the online version.
